120 years old. A new chapter.
The original St. Joseph Public Library opened on Main Street in 1904, funded by a $13,500 Andrew Carnegie grant and built by local contractor Max W. Stock. Inside, mahogany casement work, dentiled cove moldings, and a central skylight set the tone for the next sixty years of small-town civic life.
After the library moved on in 1966, the building passed quietly through the decades. In 2024 owners Shannon Kutchek and John Kenna acquired it with a clear plan: bring it back as a boutique hotel that honors every inch of its history. Captain's Choice has been on site providing general contracting since the project broke ground.
